The Yates Family 1720-1993
About
This 325-page book outlines the ancestors and descendants of the author's great, great, great-grandparents, Alf and Letha Watson Yates, who moved from Wilkes County, North Carolina to neighboring Watauga County, North Carolina in 1875. It includes many details of Alf Yates's military service as a Confederate soldier, including the Battle of Gettysburg and later as a "Galvanized Yankee" at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory, where his regiment fought on the western frontier against the Sioux, who were led by Sitting Bull. The book also shows the relationship between Alf Yates and his father's first cousins, Sarah Ann and Adelaide Yates, who married Eng and Chang Bunker, the famed Siamese Twins. The book contains family stories, approximately 100 photographs, an index, and a pull-out family tree.
