I am attending the annual Samaritan's Purse International Coordination Meeting at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. My favorite part of this meeting is when staff from around the world give testimony to the amazing works of love that God is doing in their locations and projects and in their personal lives. I am often in awe of the fact that I have been given the privilege to play some small, behind-the-scenes role in supporting those who are meeting people's needs and the sharing the Gospel. To all my brothers and sisters who are on the front lines, I am humbled and honored to know you and am encouraged by your faithfulness. I am thankful for the 15+ years that I have had with SP, especially when I think about the fact that not everyone gets the opportunity to be a part of this type of work.
When I first read about the work of Samaritan's Purse, I was working a night shift as a front desk clerk at a local hotel. I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to be a part of that ministry, but I never imagined it would be a reality for me, and another 10 years passed before it did. It is so important to like what you do and to feel you make a difference. Regardless of what your actual job is or whether it's in a foreign land or at home, we all have or should seek to have opportunities to serve and love others and impact their lives. Not all of my fellow believers may have a chance to be involved in international relief, but we all have the opportunity and responsibility to be a light and a testimony wherever we are planted. We all have a chance to share Jesus and build God's Kingdom if we will look for it.
Whose needs could you help meet today? Whose heart could you encourage? Whose burden could you help make lighter? Whose life could you help transform by sharing Christ with them? I hope we can all see how our work can be much more than just a job. That is my prayer for all of us.
