FRUIT (9/8/2014)

I began rereading the New Testament tonight and was particularly impressed by Matthew 3:8 - "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance."

If we have repented of our sins and have been saved, are our lives outwardly demonstrating what we have proclaimed to believe?  Are our words and actions bearing witness to the One in whom we say we have placed our faith?  Do we claim to have repented of our sins yet conduct ourselves in an unrepentant fashion?  Are we nominal Christians with no outward distinction by which others would identify us as Christ followers?  As James pointed out, good works will naturally follow a sincere faith. If no fruit follows salvation, then something is amiss.

Following is a link to a short but good article by Greg Laurie on this topic:  http://m.crosswalk.com/.../disciples-of-jesus-are-known...

This also relates to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Theologian Charles Ryrie writes of objective Lordship versus subjective Lordship. Objectively, Jesus is Lord of all whether anyone acknowledges it to be so. The Word of Truth states it to be so and so it is. But subjectively, as the beneficiaries of His salvation, we have the responsibility to yield ourselves, moment by moment, to His Lordship. Are we eager to claim Jesus as our Savior and to reap the benefit of eternal life promised by salvation yet resistant to subjecting ourselves to His Lordship over all areas of our lives?

"Lord, help me to be a fruit bearer for Your kingdom and Your glory. Help all my words and deeds to reflect the great work of salvation that You have wrought in my life. May Jesus reign so supremely in my heart that others will see Him in my every day conduct, responses, and attitudes. Jesus, increasingly be Lord of my life. Help me to surrender all aspects of my being to Your Lordship. Help me to withhold nothing from You and convict me of any areas that I am trying to keep from You. Help me to decrease so that You may increase. Amen."
